BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla praises team’s composure under pressure
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of ₹58 crore for the Indian cricket team following their victory in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
India, led by Rohit Sharma, secured the title after defeating New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 9. This triumph marked India’s third Champions Trophy win, having previously lifted the trophy in 2002 and 2013.
BCCI President Roger Binny lauded the team’s achievement, stating that winning back-to-back ICC tournaments was a testament to their dedication and excellence. "This cash award recognises the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. It is also our second ICC Trophy in 2025, following the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup triumph, reflecting the strong cricketing ecosystem in place in our country," Binny said.
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla praised the team’s composure under pressure. “The players have once again proved that Indian cricket is built on a solid foundation of skill, mental toughness, and a winning mentality,” he said.
India began their campaign with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh, courtesy of Shubman Gill’s century. This was followed by a victory against arch-rivals Pakistan, where Virat Kohli’s 51st ODI century guided India to a comfortable chase of 242. A New Zealand victory over Bangladesh in Rawalpindi ensured India’s place in the semi-finals.
In their final league-stage match against New Zealand, Varun Chakravarthy’s five-wicket haul and Shreyas Iyer’s 79 runs propelled India to the top of the group standings.
