Naqvi describes new role as 'tremendous honour'
Pakistan have officially assumed the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) from Sri Lanka Cricket.
The transition saw Mohsin Naqvi, the current chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), step into his new role as the ACC president. According to an official press release, Naqvi’s appointment took effect on April 3.
Expressing his gratitude, Naqvi described his new role as a "tremendous honour" and committed himself to elevating Asian cricket to new heights.
"Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the game’s growth and global influence. Together, we will unlock new opportunities, foster greater collaboration, and elevate Asian cricket to unprecedented levels," Naqvi stated.
Naqvi also extended his appreciation to the outgoing ACC president, Shammi Silva, for his leadership and significant contributions during his tenure.
Reflecting on his time as ACC president, Silva highlighted several key achievements, including securing record-breaking commercial rights for the Asia Cup and implementing a new pathway structure for emerging teams. "It has been a privilege to serve as President of the Asian Cricket Council.
The steadfast commitment of our member boards has been instrumental in elevating the ACC’s stature across the region," Silva remarked.
He further acknowledged his predecessor, Jay Shah, for laying a strong foundation for the continued success of the ACC.
