ICC maintains this protocol is consistently followed across all tournaments
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has clarified the absence of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final ceremony in Dubai,.
A spokesperson for the ICC, while speaking to a private TV channel, confirmed that Mr Naqvi, the designated representative of the host board, did not travel to Dubai for the final.
“The ICC only invites the head of the host board — such as the president, vice president, chairman, or CEO — to participate in the awards ceremony. Other board officials, regardless of their presence at the venue, are not part of the stage proceedings,” the spokesperson stated.
The ICC maintained that this protocol is consistently followed across all tournaments and is not unique to the Champions Trophy.
The absence of a PCB official on stage had led to criticism, given that Pakistan was the official host of the tournament. The final, however, was held in Dubai after India refused to send its team to Pakistan.
While most of the event was played in Pakistan, the lack of representation during the closing moments of the tournament had raised questions.
