Indian captain Rohit Sharma credits entire team for victory
Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan admitted that his team failed to capitalize on winning the toss after suffering a defeat against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match on Sunday.
Speaking after the match, Rizwan stated that Pakistan aimed for a target of 280 runs, but India’s bowlers dominated the middle overs, restricting them to just 240 runs.
“When Saud Shakeel and I were batting, our plan was to take the game deep, but our shot selection was poor, which cost us wickets at crucial moments, and we were constrained to 240 runs,” Rizwan explained.
He acknowledged that while Abrar Ahmed provided an early breakthrough, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill took the game away from Pakistan with their exceptional batting performance. "In ODI cricket, you have to perform in all three aspects," Rizwan admitted.
Rizwan also pointed out Pakistan’s fielding struggles, emphasizing the need for improvement. “We have been making the same mistakes repeatedly, especially in fielding. We need to work on them moving forward,” he added.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma credited his entire team for the victory, highlighting the impact of Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja with the ball.
“Our bowlers did well to restrict Pakistan to a low score. The partnership between Saud Shakeel and Rizwan made things challenging, but we stuck to our plan,” Sharma said, adding: "Representing the country is the most important thing."
He praised Virat Kohli for yet another match-winning knock, stating, “Virat batted brilliantly today, but none of us in the dressing room are surprised by his performance.”
