Al-Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo dismisses speculation surrounding his future

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Al-Nassr forward and Portugal international, firmly stated he would not be playing in the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States, despite receiving multiple invitations from clubs competing in the expanded 32-team tournament.
The 40-year-old's future had been a subject of intense speculation last month after FIFA President Gianni Infantino revealed ongoing discussions about Ronaldo's potential participation in the event, even though Al-Nassr had not qualified. The speculation was fuelled further by comments from Al-Nassr's sporting director, Fernando Hierro, who said the club was negotiating with Ronaldo over a contract extension, while facing competition from several clubs keen to secure the services of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
However, Ronaldo, who had posted a cryptic message on social media after Al-Nassr's season-ending match against Al-Fateh, stating, "This chapter is over. The story? Still being written," clarified his stance on the matter. Speaking to reporters, he revealed that despite numerous offers, he had made up his mind not to participate in the Club World Cup. "It's irrelevant, at the moment it doesn't make sense to talk about things other than the national team," Ronaldo said.
"I've had plenty of contact (from clubs), I see things that make sense, others that don't. You can't go to all of them (clubs), you have to think short, medium and long term," he added. "It's something that's practically decided on my part, which is not to go to the Club World Cup, but I've had plenty of invitations."
In the meantime, Ronaldo had a significant impact on the pitch on Wednesday, scoring the decisive goal in Portugal's 2-1 victory over Germany, propelling the national team into the Nations League final, where they will face Spain.
As speculation swirled about a potential showdown between Ronaldo and Barcelona's 17-year-old prodigy Lamine Yamal in Sunday's final, the Portuguese legend downplayed the idea of it being a personal rivalry. "It's always been like that, whenever I've played football, whenever I've played a big game it's always been Cristiano against this one, against that one," he remarked.
"It's been 20-something years and it's still the same, it doesn't keep me up at night anymore, it's a normal thing. They're completely different generations, a generation that's starting out, another that's finishing, which is my case."
Ronaldo concluded, "In reality it's not like that, it's a team against a team. It will always be like that... What I want most is for Portugal to be at a good level, confident that things can go well, that we can play a great game and win against a very good team, possibly the best in the world."
