Coach Mike Hesson eyes strong start, World Cup prep for Pakistan cricket team

Pakistan cricket team head coach Mike Hesson has highlighted the need to begin the upcoming series on a strong footing, emphasizing his dedication to enhancing the team’s performance and improving their international rankings through consistent and strategic play.

During a media briefing in Lahore on Monday, Hesson shared his vision for the team, stating, “We aim to start the tour positively and boost our ranking by delivering strong performances throughout the series.”

He commended star batsmen Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, describing them as vital components of Pakistan’s white-ball strategy. “Babar and Rizwan are outstanding players and central to our white-ball plans. However, there are certain areas they need to refine, and we are actively working on those,” he added.

Recently appointed as head coach, Hesson stressed the importance of adopting modern, high-intensity cricket. “Many teams are playing aggressive cricket at a high level — we want to match that intensity. But it’s equally important to combine aggression with smart, tactical cricket,” he explained.

He also expressed confidence in the team’s prospects for the upcoming T20 World Cup, stating, “We are preparing thoroughly for the T20 World Cup and remain optimistic about delivering strong performances on the world stage.”

Regarding the upcoming series against Bangladesh, Hesson acknowledged the progress made by the South Asian team, calling them a formidable opponent. “Bangladesh has improved significantly and plays quality cricket. We are approaching the matches with full seriousness,” he said.
