Naib also opens up about privilege of playing alongside cricketing legend David Warner
Afghanistan’s celebrated all-rounder Gulbadin Naib shared his candid thoughts on one of the most fiercely contested rivalries in cricket during a recent conversation with CricTracker.
Naib, a star performer for Dubai Capitals in the 2025 DP World ILT20, played a pivotal role in his team's playoff qualification.
Naib's explosive 47 off just 25 balls and his key wicket in Dubai Capitals’ victory over Abu Dhabi Knight Riders on February 2 secured their progression to the next stage of the tournament, underlining his importance to the squad.
In the interview, Naib praised the DP World ILT20 as a vital opportunity for Afghan cricketers to showcase their skills and gain recognition on the global stage.
"The DP World ILT20 is an incredible platform for Afghan cricketers to step up and prove their worth. It helps us grow as players and gain valuable experience," Naib explained.
Naib also opened up about the privilege of playing alongside cricketing legend David Warner, describing it as a learning experience. "It’s an honor to share the dressing room with someone as experienced as David Warner. His advice and approach to the game have been a huge influence on me," Naib added.
When asked about international rivalries, Naib boldly declared that the Afghanistan-Pakistan contest is the most intense. "The rivalry with Pakistan is something special. The atmosphere is unlike any other, and the passion from the fans is truly unmatched. Every time Afghanistan faces Pakistan, it’s a thrilling encounter, whether it's in India, Pakistan, or Dubai," he said, highlighting the importance of these matchups in raising Afghanistan's cricketing standards.
As Afghanistan prepares for the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy, Naib is aware of the stiff competition awaiting his team. With Afghanistan drawn in a tough group with Australia, South Africa, and England, Naib expressed confidence but acknowledged the challenge. "All the teams in this tournament are strong, and the competition will be tough. But we’re ready to take on the challenge and give our best," he said.
