Her appointment comes as part of the PCB’s ongoing efforts to bring new perspectives
Hina Munawar has made history by becoming the first female manager of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.
Munawar, an experienced police officer with a distinguished background in security and operations, will take charge of managing the national cricket team for the prestigious Champions Trophy set to begin on February 19 in Karachi. Additionally, she will oversee the team during the Tri-Nation series, which will also take place in the city later this month.
Her appointment comes as part of the PCB’s ongoing efforts to bring new perspectives and streamline the operations of the cricket team, traditionally led by male staff.
Munawar's extensive experience in law enforcement, particularly her tenure with the Frontier Constabulary in Swat, where she played a key role in high-risk operations, makes her a unique choice for the position.
Breaking gender barriers
Having passed the rigorous Civil Superior Services (CSS) exam, Munawar transitioned into various law enforcement and security roles, where she rose through the ranks. Her work in operations management, including her strategic leadership in the security domain, aligns well with the PCB’s objective of enhancing the organisational efficiency of the men’s cricket team.
Before her current appointment, Munawar made waves as the first female district officer in the Frontier Constabulary in Swat, shattering gender barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field. This landmark achievement earned her widespread recognition in Pakistan's security and law enforcement sectors.
Steady rise in PCB
Munawar’s association with cricket began last year when she joined the PCB on deputation from the Police Service of Pakistan. In her previous role, she served as the manager for the Pakistan Women’s U-19 squad, overseeing the team’s campaign in the Asia Cup.
A source close to the PCB remarked that Munawar's experience in managing operations within high-pressure environments will prove valuable in her new role. “Her appointment could streamline operations between the team and the board, as she has proven leadership in the coordination of complex operations,” the source stated.
Despite her recent foray into the world of cricket management, Munawar’s security background has set her apart. The PCB, under Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, appears keen to incorporate her fresh approach into a team environment historically dominated by male coaches and managers. Her role is expected to focus on creating a more organised and effective management structure for the team.
