Shahidi reflects on past matches, aims for improvement in upcoming World Cup encounters
Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi hailed former Pakistan cricketer Younis Khan as "legend" on Tuesday, vowing to learn from his expertise.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Shahidi spoke highly of Khan's influence, saying, "Everybody listens to Younis Khan, whenever he tells us anything. Younis Khan is pretty much aware of the pitches and grounds here in Pakistan."
Shahidi reflected on Afghanistan's previous outing against South Africa in Karachi, highlighting the challenge of the Karachi pitch.
"Our spinners were not getting help on the Karachi pitch," he said.
He added, "We have nothing to do about what is outside of the grounds. We will now make our way to the field with a new approach."
The captain also emphasised the need for hard work, stating, "We will have to work hard to seal the semi-final spot."
Shahidi acknowledged Afghanistan's strong performance against England in the World Cup 2023, but pointed out that the match is now a thing of the past.
He expressed optimism, hoping that the Lahore pitch would provide more assistance for the spinners.
