The highly anticipated Champions Trophy encounter between Australia and South Africa was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
The match, scheduled to start at 2:00 pm local time, was initially delayed due to light rain, with the toss also unable to take place at the scheduled time of 1:30 pm. However, as the rain continued throughout the afternoon, the umpires had no choice but to call off the game, resulting in both teams being awarded one point each.
Following the washout, South Africa and Australia now sit atop Group B with three points each, having won their respective opening matches of the tournament.
The weather-induced cancellation has added further intrigue to the group standings, with both teams now focusing on their upcoming fixtures as they aim to secure a place in the knockout stages.
Rain has been a recurring issue in Rawalpindi, raising concerns about future matches scheduled at the venue. The tournament organisers are yet to announce any contingency plans should further disruptions occur.
