Star player says he tries to give 100% in every match, still fit to compete at highest level
India’s star batsman Virat Kohli has achieved another historic milestone, becoming the fastest player to reach 14,000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket.
Kohli accomplished this feat during the crucial ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan, reaching the landmark in just 287 innings, the fastest in ODI history.
Kohli broke the previous record set by legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who took more than 350 innings to reach the same milestone. Meanwhile, former Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara had achieved this landmark in 378 innings.
Kohli’s incredible knock not only secured his record but also played a decisive role in India's crucial victory. His composed innings earned him the Man of the Match award.
Speaking after the match, Kohli highlighted the importance of the game and his approach during the innings. He called this match important for the semi-finals.
"Rohit Sharma's wicket fell early, so we had to build a solid partnership. My role in the middle order is to play responsibly, and today I was able to form a good partnership with Shreyas Iyer," he remarked further.
Saying he was 36 years old, Kohli reaffirmed his commitment to the game. "I try to give my 100% in every match, and I’m still fit to compete at the highest level."
