Bavuma, van der Dussen, Markram notch fifty each
Ryan Rickelton’s scintillating 106-ball 103 led South Africa to a commanding total of 315-6 in their third match of the Champions Trophy against Afghanistan at Karachi Stadium on Friday.
Opting to bat first, the Proteas faced an early setback with opener Tony de Zorzi dismissed for a run-a-ball by Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi. However, South Africa quickly regained momentum, despite some spirited bowling spells from the Afghans.
Captain Temba Bavuma found solid support in Rickelton, and together they built a vital 129-run partnership for the third wicket. Bavuma contributed a well-crafted 58 off 76 balls, including five boundaries, before being dismissed by Nabi.
Rassie van der Dussen also impressed with a quickfire 52 off 46 balls, hitting three boundaries and two sixes, while David Miller, coming off a strong practice session, was unable to make a significant impact, scoring just 14 runs from 18 balls.
Aiden Markram finished unbeaten on 52 off 36 balls, which included six boundaries and a towering six, adding further depth to the Proteas' total. Marco Jansen, however, was dismissed for a duck as Azmatulah Omarzai took his wicket.
Wiaan Mulder was not out at the crease, contributing 12 runs from 6 balls.
South Africa's total of 315-6 sets a formidable target for Afghanistan to chase in the ongoing Champions Trophy match.
