Zaman suffered a back injury while fielding against New Zealand
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially approved Imam-ul-Haq as a replacement for Fakhar Zaman in Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy squad, the governing body announced on Wednesday.
The decision was made by the Event Technical Committee, which includes Wasim Khan, Usman Wahla, Sarah Edgar, and former South African captain Shaun Pollock.
Imam, who was part of the Pakistan Shaheens during the tournament’s warm-up matches, impressed with a commanding 98-run innings against South Africa. His recent form makes him a likely candidate to fill the void left by Zaman’s absence.
Meanwhile, the ICC Technical Committee is expected to officially announce the replacement in the coming days.
Zaman suffered a back injury while fielding against New Zealand, forcing Pakistan to reshuffle their batting order. Saud Shakeel was promoted to open, while Zaman batted at number four before being ruled out of the tournament.
